This is an expose of the politics behind the IOC. It's disgusting. For those of us who like the quadrennial competitions, this book puts everything in proper perspective. Putting people like Avery Brundidge and Juan Antonio Samaranch in charge of this was simply wrong. Sports could be so much better with their likes in charge.
What a waste!
The Lords of the Rings has long been a must-read for both critics and fans of the Olympic Movement. It's ironic in that the book now seems almost dated in its naivete. I know that these guys pulled together the whole Samaranch/Franco/Fascist connection, and, yes, the Club is pretty odious. However, prior to both Sarajevo and LA in 1984, The Games were on a real downhill slide. Samaranch is no saint, but he did show some real leadership (and perhaps some hypocrisy). But a room full of journalists sure as hell couldn't have done any better.
Good reporting from the journalists, Explains a lot about sport... sadly
It puts into perspective how business like (and corrupt) sport has become.
I'm a big Olympic fan so was very interested to read about the behind the scenes. Great book, came in perfect condition and timely.
Some interesting stuff but hate towards Samaranch Franco background takes too much space - both in lines and between the lines.
Too much skin deep irrelevant journalism weakens the good (backgound information) in the book.
